Car rental in central Rabat

Sovoycars operates a city-centre pick-up in Rabat, separate from our desk at Rabat–Salé Airport. It suits anyone already in the capital who does not need to collect a car on arrival by air. We are a Moroccan rental company running our own fleet, not a price-comparison site.

Built for arrivals by rail, not by plane

This is the practical difference between our two Rabat locations. Rabat sits on the Al Boraq high-speed line — Africa's first — with Rabat-Agdal and Rabat-Ville stations connecting to Casablanca in about 50 minutes and Tangier in roughly 1 hour 20. A great many visitors reach the capital by train rather than by air.

If that is you, a city pick-up makes more sense than an airport one: no airport surcharge, and no trip out to Salé just to collect a vehicle you will drive straight back into town.

When a car is worth it in Rabat

Be aware that Rabat is well covered by the Rabat–Salé tramway, and the historic core is compact and walkable. For getting around the capital itself, you may not need a car at all.

Where it earns its place is leaving:

• Casablanca — about 90 km on the A3, roughly an hour.
• Meknes and Volubilis — the Roman site is about 2 hours 30 inland and very poorly served by public transport.
• Fes — roughly 2 hours 30 by motorway.
• Moulay Bousselham — the lagoon and birdwatching country north past Kenitra.
• Tangier — around 3 hours north on the A1.

Worth seeing in the capital

• Kasbah des Oudayas — the blue-and-white citadel above the river mouth.
• Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
• Chellah — Roman settlement turned Merinid necropolis, on the edge of the city.
• Salé — across the Bou Regreg, quieter and far less visited.

Practical notes

• Motorway tolls. The A1 and A3 are toll roads; carry cash as well as a card, since card acceptance at booths is not universal.
• Government quarter. Streets around ministries and embassies carry parking restrictions and a visible police presence. Use signed car parks.
• Traffic is moderate. Rabat is noticeably calmer to drive than Casablanca.

Choosing a category

• Economy or compact — easiest for the city and the Casablanca run.
• Intermediate — comfortable on motorway distances to Fes or Tangier.
• Premium — often requested here for meetings and institutional visits.
• SUV — useful if you are continuing to the Middle Atlas.

How city pick-up works

1. Select Rabat Downtown as your pick-up location when booking.
2. Tell us your arrival time and, if you are coming by train, which station.
3. We confirm the exact meeting point with you before the day of collection.
4. We check the vehicle together and record its condition before you sign.
5. Return in Rabat, or at another agreed location subject to availability.

What to bring

• A valid driving licence held for at least one year.
• Passport or national ID.
• A payment card in the main driver's name.
• Minimum age 21 for most categories.

Where exactly do I collect the car?

We confirm the meeting point in central Rabat with you ahead of your collection date, based on your arrival time and where you are staying.

Is city pick-up cheaper than the airport?

There is no airport surcharge on a city collection. Ask us when booking and we will set out the full cost either way.

Can I collect in Rabat and return in Casablanca?

Often yes, subject to availability. Mention it when booking so we can confirm one-way terms.

Is insurance included?

Most rates include basic cover, extendable during booking.
